Nearly every day for four decades, the prisoner took a stroll through a tiny garden inside West Berlin's forbidding Spandau fortress. He was never without a keeper and his gait had slowed to a shuffle over the years, but he rarely missed the opportunity for fresh air. Last Monday a guard left him alone briefly in a small cottage at the garden's edge. A few minutes later the guard returned to find the sole inmate of Spandau slumped over, an electrical cord wound tightly around his neck. Rushed to the nearby British Military Hospital...

Send this man of steel out to terminate the Terminator. He's clean and lean, with the soul of a blue machine -- an incorruptible, indestructible cop. Shoot him and he barely gets dented; bribe him and he turns you in. With a gait as clangorous as "Duke" Wayne's, he walks down the mean streets of tomorrow's Detroit, scaring felons with the cool metallic whisper: "Your move, creep." Who is this electronic enforcer? ...little show over, Misha made his way over behind the "Say 'No' To Star Wars" pavillion. Something in his gait seemed familiar, so I followed him. As he removed the head of his bear costume, I realized it was none other than Soviet Big Wheel Mikhail Gorbachev. Sneaking up behind him, I whispered in his ear, "Hey, buddy, you want some Space Shuttle plans, cheap...

...held a lot of "anger that has never been directed. In my inward life, I still boil a lot." So it is no surprise that many of King's books could be fairly called "The Revenge of the Nerds": the ursine kid with the bad eyes and the shambling gait would find a way to get his own back, even if it took him 20 years -- especially if it took him 20 years...
