After a day of rioting, the entire city of Rafah (pop. 80,000) in the Gaza Strip was placed under curfew by Israeli authorities. This shocking act of violent desecration touched off a new wave of protests in the occupied areas of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.
