...Last week, police raided Chimatpada, a maze of slum houses, cheap restaurants and noisy industrial workshops, bursting into the pink-walled shanty where the Hanifs lived. Inside, says chief investigator Rakesh Maria, they found 22 detonators, 235 gelatin sticks, 14 timing devices, wires and soldering equipment. As the authorities tell it, the Hanifs collaborated with a 26-year-old embroiderer, Arshat Ansari, to pull off the Aug. 25 bombings that killed 52 and injured 175 in Bombay. While Ansari allegedly placed his bomb in a taxi at Zaveri Bazaar, a crowded jewelry market, police say the Hanifs had packed explosives...

...enough of lean cuisine? Get ready to savor the dessert restaurant, which offers multi-course meals consisting of nothing but sweets. At Sugar, a swanky dessert bar in Chicago, a menu might include a palate-cleansing roasted-quince-in-cider soup ($6), followed by pomegranate gelatin with tangerine sorbet ($6) and Macdeth by Chocolate ($15). ...exhibit at the Howard Yezerski Gallery, Gary Schneider is trying to find out. A striking series of seven small and four large toned silver gelatin photographic prints reveals the contours of children’s hands and mouths in all their complexity. The symmetric, proportioned limbs and lips of traditional painting give way to ethereal, x-ray-like forms, each as unique as the fingerprints they highlight. These works build on Schneider’s previous experiences at the intersection of science and art, in which he produced extremely detailed portraits of parts of his own body, including a hair...

Both Huene and Horst were aware of their own artistic context, gaining inspiration from the masterpieces they saw in the Louvre. They were especially influenced by Greek art. Huene’s gelatin plated silver photographs with their carefully posed models and flowing drapery harks back to classical Greek friezes. In one famous photograph, Horst transforms two large rolls of paper into what seem like Greek columns. His regal model—dressed in a fitted but flowing white gown—resembles a Greek goddess. Both Huene and Horst placed Greek sculptures in the background of their work...
