...probably won't. William Goldman has transferred the patty-cake banter of his Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid to contemporary New York City, where he unleashes a quartet of schlemiel heist men (Robert Redford, George Segal, Ron Leibman, Paul Sand). Their task is to lift a gem called the Sahara stone and turn it over to the pompous African diplomat (Moses Gunn) who contracted for the job. They go to a lot of elaborate trouble to break into places. The gimmick is that the stone is never where it is supposed...

Last week Steinberg led the orchestra through a program of Shostakovich and Mozart that, besides being musically rewarding, demonstrated that the auditorium is an acoustical gem. Heinz Hall has what is called a good throw. Its sound reaches the audience in smooth, vibrant, evenly distributed waves. German Acoustician Heinrich Keilholz removed a lot of old velvet, surrounded the stage with reflector panels (removable for opera and ballet), then hung a larger, fan-shaped reflector out over the main floor. "In the old days," says Steinberg, "Pittsburghers had no way of telling what their orchestra really sounded like. To find...

...genuinely funny ballet is as rare as, well, a genuinely funny Broadway comedy these days. Choreographing humor, in fact, requires someone with the quirky genius of Jerome Robbins, whose seldom seen 1956 comic gem, The Concert, has just been auspiciously revived by the New York City Ballet. Completely restaged and updated by Robbins, it is still a hilarious, crowd-pleasing delight, especially for anyone who has ever suffered through a Swan Lake mangled by an underrehearsed road company...

...melodic ideas of Anthem achieve lyrical fruition in "Dark Star." While Anthem bespeaks the darkest underbelly of the acid experience, "Dark Star" is a polished gem of intergalactic proportions. The Dead has clearly made a significant transition in their relationship with drugs. Merely in poetic terms, consider the relationship of the Sun in the Anthem album to the portrait of a "Dark Star." Contrast the frenetic percussion work of Hart and Kreutzmann on "Caution" and Anthem to the brilliantly subtle and suggestive use of gongs, bells, cymbals on the later effort. Try "Alligator", a piece of unabashed musical sarcasm complete...

Part of Jahn's rise to eminence as Europe's biggest chain restaurateur is the result of using American methods of mass purchasing and strict cost controls. Another ingredient is a deft instinct for customers' inner needs. His restaurants are gemütlich, the food is solid, and the prices are 10% to 20% lower than almost anywhere else-precisely what he would want for himself, despite his success. A chief deputy, Rolf Schielein, says of Jahn: "Basically, he has retained his waiter's mind...
