Much of the credit goes to the pragmatic Socialist government of Prime Minister Felipe Gonzalez Marquez, 44, who is now in his fifth year in office. Gonzalez has offered generous investment incentives to both domestic and foreign companies. These subsidies often include grants amounting to as much as 30% of a firm's capital outlays, as well as tax breaks that increase with the number of Spanish workers hired. ...neurotically generous. She is neurotically needy. We all know about people like Betty Blue: in movies, though not necessarily in life, they come to a bad end. But Die Fledermaus should soar and sparkle, not merely be endured...
...boys still hold the high-tech edge. In the girls' department, the wildly popular My Little Pony is a product line featuring simple anthropomorphic equines made to be fussed over, just as Cricket and Baby Talk are dolls meant to be cared for, changed and charged up with generous quantities of batteries to operate their voices and make their faces move. Baby Talk comes up with provocative dialogue like "I love you" and "Turn me over" (lines certain to elicit a lively first-time response from Dad); Cricket sticks mostly to songs and stories...
