WASHINGTON, D.C.: His diplomatic immunity revoked, Georgian diplomat Gueorgui Makharadze, the Republic of Georgia's number-two envoy in Washington, turned himself in to Washington, D.C. police Thursday to face charges that his drunken driving caused the death of a 16-year-old girl earlier this year. Cruising through busy downtown streets at speeds up to 85 mph, Makharadze had careened into a line of cars waiting at a stoplight on Connecticut Avenue, setting off a fatal chain reaction. Makharadze was involved in a high-speed five-car pileup a week ago that killed a teenage girl. Although it appeared at the time that alcohol was a factor in the wreck, Makharadze was not tested because...

Congressman John Linder, a fellow Georgian apparently deputized to speak for the Speaker, acknowledged that Gingrich had filed a false statement with the committee but fired back that any problem was the fault of the lawyer, who "was hired and paid a lot of money to not let Newt make mistakes...
...nonnative Georgian and a Democrat, Kaszans is an outsider--and an underdog--in a district that gave her opponent 77% of the vote in the last election. Kaszans defends federal programs for children and seniors and is a strong proponent of Medicare, citing it as the prime reason Americans over 65 live longer than those in any other country...
