...Hebrew Union College celebrated its Soth anniversary with "Thanks to Denmark" ceremonies, recalling one of the bravest mass rescues of World War II. In 1943, when Hitler sent his Gestapo to arrest all Jews in occupied Denmark, the Danes hid the Jewish population in attics, barns and cellars. Danish policemen and fishermen slipped the Jews into waiting fishing smacks that ferried them to the safety of neutral Sweden.
