...than in local contests where Christian Democratic patronage is entrenched. Party officials admitted that, despite their forceful stand against bargaining with Moro's kidnapers, they had been tarred by the terrorists' use of the "Red label" and what they called the "illicit misrepresentation of the Communist name." Giancarlo Pajetta, a prominent Communist leader, fumed against Christian Democratic politicians in the provinces who had called the Red Brigades "the Communists' children" in campaign speeches...

...thought I was due for a pleasant film experience,"says Candice Bergen, who was last seen slugging it out with Giancarlo Giannini in Italian Director Lina Wertmuller's feminist treatise The End of the World in Our Usual Bed in a Night Full of Rain. This time the title is a cinch-Oliver's Story. A continuation of Love Story, it also stars Ryan O'Neal, who falls in love with Marcie Bonwit, an executive in her family's department store. The cool restraint of Catherine Deneuve, which on other occasions can seem maddeningly vacuous, here supplies a welcome relief. She is a fetching brunette in this film. Playing Giannini's sister, she floats through all the gnashing and weeping with a fragile and captivating serenity...

...Full of Rain. While shooting a scene with Actor Gianearlo Giannini atop a 52-story skyscraper, Lina decided that the Bank of America building simply wasn't high enough. "I had to stand on top of an 18-ft. tower she had built on top of it," complains Giancarlo, who starred in Seven Beauties, Swept Away and three other Wertmuller movies. "That's typical of Lina, to alter everything she finds, even a skyscraper." When it came to filming scenes with Co-Star Candice Bergen, the perfectionist director was equally demanding. Says Giannini: "We must have embraced each...
