...connection in every seat Take a Hike Destinations to restore your sense of wonder Santa's prototype, as he tracks the shape-shifting Byzantine bishop St. Nicholas across 17 centuries of Christendom. Born in Christian Myra (now Demre) in southern Turkey in 280 A.D., Nick was sainted for anonymous gift giving to needy folk, and nominated a guardian of seafarers. After his bones were removed by Italian raiders to the port of Bari in 1087, prisoners, prostitutes, pawnbrokers and others flocked to his patronage. Soon, every Christian city wanted a piece of him, and relic hunters provided fingers, hair...
Medical student Leana Wen knows becoming a doctor means that she will soon get lots of nice gift offers--catered lunches, dinners at fine restaurants and endless office supplies, to name a few--from drugmakers that hope she will readily prescribe their products. Yet rather than relish these traditional perks, Wen and the 60,000-member American Medical Students Association (AMSA) have launched a campaign to offset the influence of drug-industry representatives. After a deluge of calls from angry AAFP members, the academy eventually allowed No Free Lunch to set up a booth as well...

Part incredible animation, part Zach Braff’s success at channeling lovable neuroticism, the title star of the production is the cutest animated animal ever—besting out the numerous big-eyed elephants, dogs...
...sympathy.It is the parallels between modern life and Hindu mythology that most enrich “Shalimar the Clown.” The world that these characters live in, though littered with mythical snakes, prophetesses, and omens that can only be seen by those blessed or cursed with the gift of clairvoyance, is as real to us as can be. We can only stand to learn from these characters in trying to establish our own identities and relationships in the face of history.—Crimson staff writer Jessica A.
