...etiquette manual really abandons a girl in that situation. It was difficult not to stare—one guy has improved tremendously in physique since we were together. In the case of another, I was glad to have let him go before he exposed his flabby form to Harvard Yard. Then again, the only thing more awkward than running Primal Scream is going as a spectator, so I suppose I deserved exactly what I endured...
...generals. By now, Peretz should have learned the first rule of military strategy: never leave your flank exposed. But that is exactly what Halutz's departure has done: With the general gone, Peretz will be next in line to take a bullet for the Lebanon fiasco. Olmert will be glad to see him go; according to an opinion poll last week, Peretz's approval rating hit bottom at 1%, a fallout over the military's inconclusive war against the Lebanese Shi'ite militia, Hizballah. ...table here - an ex-Wall Street Journal reporter, I am plucking my quill, or dipping it, or whatever we did to adorn parchment back in the day. I wrote a bunch of stories for TIME about McGwire in 1998 when he broke the single-season home run record, and I got to spend a little time with him. Yes, he was roughly three people wide, and yes, he had backne and yes, maybe his smile was a little gum-heavy, but I watched McGwire hit a baseball harder than I've ever seen anyone hit one. And since more than...
