Last week, with his Dartmouth record not yet officially accepted, he competed in the annual games of the Knights of Columbus in Manhattan. Without close competition-Gene Venzke crossed the line 30 yards behind him-he breezed through a mile in 4 min. 7.4 sec., breaking his own (recognized) indoor record by one second.
