...Reports about her supposedly salacious sex life - including a book, Amanda e gli altri, that according to Knox's ex-boyfriend was based on a mere 10 pages of an old diary - have contributed to her inability to get a fair trial, Bremner claims. "The tabloid media glommed onto the name Foxy Knoxy," Bremner says, referring to the moniker that peppers news coverage and that suggests that Knox had given herself the nickname in reference to her sexual proclivities. "It referred to playing soccer in Seattle as a kid," Bremner says. She and other Knox supporters draw a very different...

...Inzerillo mob family of Palermo has long been referred to by a somewhat wistful moniker: gli Scappati, the Runaways. More than 20 years ago, the surviving Inzerillos had been "allowed" to flee their home island by the then Sicilian boss of bosses Toto Riina. The bloodthirsty capo had killed dozens of their brothers, cousins, uncles and fathers in a mob war in the early 1980s, a conflict that cemented Riina's Corleone clan as the supreme rulers of Sicily's crime syndicate, also known as Cosa Nostra. Mafia experts say Riina was on his way to exterminating the rest...

Dubbed "gli scappati" (the fled ones), the Inzerillo family had been on the verge of total extermination by then boss of bosses Toto Riina, Provenzano's boyhood friend from Corleone, in the bloody Mafia War of 1980-81. The first song, "Rolling," opens with drummer Yuval Gabay pounding a quick, charged drum and bass beat, followed immediately by stand-up bassist Sebastian Steinberg's entrance with low bowed bass notes as keyboardist/sampler-man Mark Di Gli Antoni inserts an eerie, ambient synth line. Electronica is slowly creeping into their homemade style, creating an effective menagerie of beats. Gabay seamlessly incorporates jungle and drum and bass beats throughout the album under Doughty's sung funk-poetry. British drum and bass master Optical (who has mixed for, among others...

Most riveting, though, is the keyboard and sampling of Mark De Gli Antoni. Moving from swing music to random movie quotes (the prevailing fad of alternative music today), he contributes to the measured chaos of Soul Coughing. This is a sound that won't create a Dead following, or break into the mainstream a la Hootie (and who would want to?), but it will captivate club audiences and generate some fine bootleg tapes to exchange for that DMB at UVA concert...
