Panazz also played a few Christmas tunes in expectation of the upcoming season. They have a Christmas album out of traditional Christmas songs done calypso style. They played an upbeat version of "Silver Bells" and "Gloria in Excelsis" combined with "Merry Christmas Everyone." They also covered "When You Wish Upon a Star," which was added to their repertoire after performing their annual gig at Walt Disney World's Epcot Center, where they do 60 shows in two weeks. During the song, percussionist Cliff Coombs made a mockery of conducting as he danced and skipped around the stage, succeeding in firing...
...role--she is a striking mix of inner strength and physical vulnerability. Though helpless once the contest turns physical, Suzy's always one step ahead of her stalkers (and Rattey's pensive pauses and subtle gesturing give us the sense that her character is always thinking, always plotting). As Gloria, Suzy's teenage helper, Kate Johnsen '01 is appropriately petulant (though she is unfortunately saddled with a number of hackneyed, static lines). As rumors of their love fly around the village, Karl and Gloria must flee in search of safer havens. Reaching Karl's mother's native village, the couple settles in a country home and prepares for a better life. Karl, however, begins to show signs that he is still sympathetic to his Jewish roots, and in spite of their Edenic country home, the pair will soon have...
...without a single like-able character. Karl's selfishness, his sexual attraction to his former nanny, his willingness to do anything for his promotion; all of these characteristics repel us from him, but Appelfeld never tells us any redeeming qualities Karl might have had. We cannot even sympathize with Gloria as a possible victim of Karl's desires. Appelfeld never tells us if Gloria returns Karl's love, and in the end she comes off as being simply weak. Strangely, Gloria possesses an almost robotic tendency to observe the Jewish traditions she learned while living with Karl's parents, though...
...Gloria Buffonge and Thomasin Guenard, who both ran on the same ticket as Landau and Williams, were elected vice president and secretary respectively...
