...mayor is known for being critical of Ahmadinejad. The government, Qalibaf says, has missed a "golden opportunity" to leverage skyrocketing oil prices into reform of the heavily state-controlled economy. He defends Iran's nuclear program, denying that it is designed for military purposes, but hints that Ahmadinejad's provocative foreign-policy pronouncements have not furthered Iran's aims. "One can talk to the world in much better ways," he says. In June, President Bush won consideration from European leaders for tougher sanctions on Iran for its refusal to suspend uranium-enrichment activities. Ahmadinejad scoffed, "The enemy cannot do anything...

...like Phelps is basking in the golden glow alone. The U.S. swim team's stash of 15 medals is five more than they had earned in the same events in Athens - including two more golds, both of which belong to Phelps. Minutes after Phelps destroyed the world record in the 200m freestyle, Natalie Coughlin made history by being the first woman to defend the 100m backstroke at the Olympics. ...wouldn't worry about that at all. Almost every country in the world welcomes mainland tourists. It is a golden opportunity for Taiwan not just to make money but to also to establish more friendships with mainland people. The education ministry has also decided to recognize mainland diplomas and many mainland students will come to Taiwan to study. And that is also my policy. I want to make young people of the two sides have an opportunity to get to know each other at a relatively early stage of their lives. This is the best way for mutual understanding...

...significant portion of the voters in a key swing state, will go to the polls for absolutely anything and are a reliably liberal base that is just not into him. He wronged them by beating Hillary Clinton, whom they loved because she's feisty and tough, like a fifth Golden Girl. But it's also because he's young, seen as dovish on Israel and black, which is not the old Jews' favorite minority. If he were an old Asian guy who knew Krav Maga, he'd take Pompano in a landslide. I think I've just pitched the plot...
