...moments that capture bare-bones Beam. “Lovesong of the Buzzard” wisps along on an upbeat percussion line, with effects reminiscent of “Highway 61 Revisited” rising in and out of its shadows. “Resurrection Fern” is gorgeous, glimmering like a moonlit reflection of older song “The Trapeze Swinger,” and the album closer, “Flightless Bird, American Mouth,” is the closest Beam comes to his earliest work. Describing two people who make love robustly in a grounded plane, he writes: "Their sex takes place in the late afternoons, and shortly afterwards they emerge from the Airstream like humbled dormice." Ondaatje has a gift for capturing music and landscape in words, and there are gorgeous descriptions of strumming guitars, running horses and swooping hawks. But the second part of the book is a letdown; the descriptions in France are often too contrived, too literary. We want less about Segura's art, more about Coop and his crooked card games. And then there's the question...

Ross has grand plans for IUON and hopes to make it the largest nursing school in the world. He has sunk at least $10 million into the 50,000-sq.-ft.
