ALBERT AYLER, NEW GRASS (impulse!). Alto Saxophonist Ayler uses a gospel-rock background and a group called The Soul Singers to help him get a mystical word across: "The music I bring to you is of a different dimension in my life, the message one of spiritual love, peace and understanding." The tension of his wavering whines and reedy growls is somewhat dispelled by the propelling, regular beat, making such tunes as New Generation and Everybody's Movin' an oddly felicitous blend of spiritual and material...
Marx was not a "sensitive man" but rather arrogant, overbearing, irascible and utterly self-centered. He responded not to change in his time but rather to Hegel's message of worldly redemption, according to which everything eventually would be wholly rational, which he translated into a gospel of revolution...
...disk of Good Morning Starshine by a singer named Oliver. Another performer who has successfully dipped into the Hair repertory is Nina Simone, whose soulful Ain't Got No/ I Got Life for a time was the top pop hit in Britain. Next, Lawrence Welk...

In trying to resolve the contradiction, Neuhaus says, many chaplains simply arrange their values along military lines, like good soldiers. He would prefer to see military chaplains replaced by civilian clergy accredited to the armed forces like Red Cross personnel...
Success has not brought Hawkins all the peace and quiet he might have expected. For one thing, several R. & B. stations have refused to play Oh Happy Day on their soul shows because they regard gospel as too sacred for dancing. For another, the success of Oh Happy Day has spawned a rash of imitators. The biggest shock of all, however, is that two of Hawkins' soloists have quit and gone out on their own. One of them, Betty Watson, has even organized her own group, taken the old name of Hawkins' chorus, and agreed to appear...
