...first race again the Naval Academy on the Severn. The race will be rowed over a two-mile course and will probably be rowed down stream at 3.30, depending on weather conditions. The crew, with Morgan as substitute, Coach Wray and Manager Howes, arrived at Annapolis yesterday morning. They got out on the water at 4.30, and paddled up over the course in short stretches, accompanied by Coach Wray in a single. After coming in, the men took a run before dinner. The order of the crew is as follows: Stroke, Sargent; 7, Richardson; 6, Bacon; 5, Waid; 4, Lunt...
...crews got out on the river on February 21, nearly a month earlier than last year. For the first month Sargent was tried at stroke, and then Morgan was tried for two weeks. On March 23 Sargent was taken back into the first boat where he has since remained. The only other change in the make-up of the crew was the shifting of Waid to 5. Pell repeatedly carried the puck toward the Yale goal, but the Yale defense was too strong to allow Rumsey...
...second half the University team got together better and played a more confident game. In this half Briggs went in for Newhall and later for Hicks while Paine took right end, vacated by Briggs. Hicks made the first goal of the half, and Pell made the next unassisted. The play then became less interesting, and although the University team could not rush successfully, Andover was kept from scoring by good defensive work. In the last thirty seconds of the game Briggs dribbled the puck down cleverly and passed to Pell who shot the goal...
...minute halves yesterday afternoon the University basketball team defeated the second team 24 to 22. The play was slow and without life and the shooting was, for the most part, very weak. The second team frequently got the jump on the first by more active floor work and accurate passing. Neither team was sure in handling the ball and the passes were not swift enough, with the result that many were intercepted. S. Brown played a lively defensive game, allowing his man to score only one goal; Brooks too was strong on the offense in the first half...
