...decorating philosophy: She likes to keep it neat, clean and organized. The matching couches and the decked-out window seat say it all. Looking at her closet, she could be Goth because of all the black clothing she has. And a lot of her accessories are black too. But it’s so organized in here that I almost feel like I’m in a museum...

There is an understated elegance to the writing that enriches the flow of the story. It is never overtly flashy, never sacrificing function for form. When describing a girl with a penchant for eccentric dress, for example, Hank comments that “she claims she’s Goth, but she just reminds me of a car wreck that you go by on the Interstate. No matter what you see, it’s impossible to turn your eyes away...

(Though I auditioned for Mutius, a guy who dies quickly and honorably in the first act, I was cast in non-speaking roles in the ensemble—playing, among other things, a chain belt-wearing, baby-carrying Goth and a Roman who shoots arrows into a wild orgy.) ...Shinoda, 24, guitarist Brad Delson, 24, bassist Phoenix (just Phoenix, thanks), 24, and drummer Rob Bourdon, 23--inject nearly everything they do (save their songs) with a sweetly humanistic approach. They may scream "Shut up when I'm talking to you" like misunderstood demons, but they don't wear goth makeup, cut themselves onstage, objectify women or encourage kids to "break stuff," as Limp Bizkit infamously did at Woodstock '99. They are earnest, middle-class guys who sign autographs until the arena lights go out, give their e-mail addresses to fans and refrain from uttering a single curse word...
