...California, Democrat Kathleen Brown is inching up in her race against GOP Gov. Pete Wilson, although her gains among those likely to vote are less dramatic. According to a Los Angeles Times poll, Brown lags 48 to 45 percent behind Wilson, but the difference is within the poll's error margin. Two weeks ago, Brown trailed by eight points. Still if younger less reliable voters are removed from the picture, Wilson leads 52-43. Illegal aliens accused of committing crimes will face deportation even before trial under a pilot program in Florida. Gov. Lawton Chiles, who announced the start of the program in the midst of a tough re-election battle, was immediately denounced by Republican challenger Jeb Bush for pulling a vote-grabbing stunt. Florida already deports some imprisoned illegals. In the new program, to be tested for three months in Monroe, Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, aliens will be deported when they're charged.
