Although it was discovered in 1863, indium was strictly a laboratory curiosity until Dr. William S. Murray, now of Indium Corporation of America, went to work on it in 1924. At that time only one gram was available and it was worth considerably more than platinum. Dr. Murray found that indium could be extracted commercially from a zinc ore mined near Kingman, Ariz. Last year the potential supply was figured at more than two million grams (4,400 Ib.) annually, at a cost of about 40? an ounce. At the rate that it is being put to work, much...

...such research lapsed for another decade. Within the last few years, several research groups (notably the University of Pennsylvania's new Air-Borne Disease Laboratories) again began testing various sprays. Many chemicals were found to kill airborne micro-organisms quickly, even in concentrations as low as one gram of chemical per 500 cu. ft. of air. Trouble was that all these air germicides smelled bad, or were toxic, or irritated the respiratory tract. Dr. Robertson's propylene glycol vapor is odorless, tasteless, nontoxic, non-irritating, cheap, highly bactericidal...

Biotin is so potent that it stimulates the growth of yeast cells even when diluted to one part in 500,000,000,000. One gram dissolved in 25,000,000 gallons of water is enough to meet the vital needs of bacteria. All higher forms of life, including man, also need tiny amounts of biotin for such vital functions as cellular respiration and growth...
