Harold Lionel Zellerbach, 83, former executive vice president and grandson of the founder of Crown Zellerbach, one of the world's largest producers of paper products; while vacationing aboard a cruise ship; in Honolulu. President for 28 years of the San Francisco Art Commission, Zellerbach helped establish the city as one of the country's cultural centers. He was also active in international af fairs and in 1957 was named head of the Commission on European Refugees, which tried to find homes for post-World War II displaced persons...

What persuaded the late oil billionaire J. Paul Getty to pay $2.9 million in ransom for his kidnaped grandson Eugene Paul Getty II was the 17-year-old's right ear. His Calabrian kidnapers had cut it off and mailed it to a Rome newspaper with threats of further mutilations. Last week young Getty, now 21, was working in Southern California on documentary films and no longer self-conscious about that ear. A new ear of tissues taken from his own body is in process of being sculpted at Stanford University Medical Center...

Wiederkehr was named for Johann Wiederkehr, who settled in Altus, Ark., in the 1880s because the Ozark Mountain country reminded him of his native Switzerland. Johann planted native Concords and Delawares, but in 1958 his grandson Alcuin, now 43, began experimenting with vinifera and last year sold 10,000 gal. of such wines as Cabernet Sauvignon and Gewurztraminer, some of them in his own Alpine-style restaurant...
