Object of Roosevelt Raceway, like the Monza course, is to combine the advantages of road-racing (tests for automobile motors, excitement for spectators) with the advantages of track-racing (high speed, visibility for crowds). Roosevelt Raceway's four-mile track has a three-quarter mile straightaway thanked by grandstands. The other three and a quarter miles, lying just beyond the straightaway, are coiled into three major loops, shaped like the profile of a Parker House roll. The track winds through 16 turns all within clear view of the grandstand crowd. Most elaborate plant of its kind in the world...
Messiah's Message. Suspense having been nicely built up in Nürnberg he arose to speak at last-Der Führer. This year the haupttribüne or grandstand for distinguished Germans privileged to sit behind the Realmleader was 1,000 feet wide and the pedestal from which he speaks had become a lofty pinnacle. With blaring bands, solemn chanting, clockwork goose-stepping and dramatic searchlight and spotlight work, Adolf Hitler was made to appear more than ever what in fact he is-the Teuton Messiah. As hard-breathing, swashbuckling sword-&-cloak melodrama it is good but not superlative...
...thing ever since its fast start two years ago, when the State Legislature weakened before smart lobbying and legalized pari-mutuel horse-race gambling. Within a month the Narragansett Racing Association was incorporated and before the summer was done held its first race with paint still wet on the grandstand. The track takes 62% of all bets made, keeps the "breaks" (i. e., odd pennies left over after bets are paid off to an even nickel). Including the breaks, Narragansett's take last year was $2,174,000. Concessions, programs, gate receipts, added another $457,000. After handing...
