Benson wants Congress to get rid of rigid, mandatory price supports altogether, grant the Agriculture Secretary authority to set support under any farm commodity at whatever level he deems suitable, from 100% down. If Benson gets his way, the Government will no longer use supports to try to make farming profitable even for an inefficient farmer on an obsolete small farm.
