...Shallow Graves. When the battle for Hue ended Feb. 24, 1968, some 3,500 civilians were missing. A number had obviously died in the fighting and lay buried under the rubble. But as residents and government troops began to clean up, they came across a series of shallow mass graves just east of the Citadel, the walled city that shelters Hue's old imperial palace. About 150 corpses were exhumed from the first mass grave, many tied together with wire and bamboo strips. Some had been shot, others had apparently been buried alive. ...past has accepted the idea of a cease-fire in Viet Nam only if it is supervised by an international body agreed to by both sides. In June, he said that without such surveillance, and "in the case of a guerrilla war, a cease-fire is a grave disadvantage to those forces that are in place." The cover picture of the album centers around a grave saying "Beatles," beneath which are flowers arranged in a pattern resembling the letter "P" and also resembling a bass guitar. The flowers can be divided into five characters which conceivably read, "PAUL?" Three sticks are laid across these flowers- one, it is obvious (once you get in the right spirit...
...cover picture on Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band focuses on a grave, with the flowers at its bottom shaped like a bass guitar-McCartney's instrument-and like the letter "P." On the inside photo McCartney wears on his left arm a patch reading "O.P.D." (Officially Pronounced Dead), the British equivalent of "D.O.A...
