...missed one dramatic incident in the history of Greenough's George Washington [TIME, Nov. 19]. Quite naturally you missed it, for I believe I am the single custodian of a visual memory of the event I have in mind. It was on a winter day back in 1908. Late in the afternoon I crossed Pennsylvania Avenue at Twelfth Street. Not only was the air crisp, but a gusty wind was swirling a sudden downpour of snow.
