...ceremony that joined the pair was almost self-consciously modest. Rain, considered a blessing by the Greeks, had descended like a grey benediction across the Onassis-owned island of Skorpios. In the tiny chapel, Jackie stood quietly-almost in a daze-in her beige chiffon-and-lace dress, Ari in his dark blue business suit. John and Car oline, each carrying a single tall white candle, flanked them. As Archimandrite Polykarpos Athanassion intoned the solemn Greek of the nuptial liturgy, Jackie and Ari exchanged rings and wreaths of lemon blossoms, and drank wine from a single chalice. Then the priest...

...women's handbags, the movie abruptly shifts direction. The downhill half is a quasi-documentary, reminiscent of In Cold Blood, complete with textbook-spouting psychiatrist and brooding intellectual lawyer (Henry Fonda). Fleischer obviously wants it both ways, but he gets neither. The black comedy is only dirty grey, and the psychiatric probing is reduced to a few slick optical allusions when DeSalvo crosses into zones of hallucination during Fonda's grilling...

They said that the Negroes got off from school yesterday to go hear Dick Gregory, and so it was alright for them to take today off to see Wallace. Their high school was 55 per cent Negro, they said...

...England to which Richardson devotes the first half of the film is a frightful place. All of the outdoor scenes in England were shot in cloudy weather, and through the grey obscurity emerge ghastly relics of an earlier, pre-industrial age. Richardson presents a society where the past oppresses the present. Near the beginning of the film, we are shown a huge equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington being drawn through the misty streets of London like a pagan idol. They've had it made, and now they don't know where to put it, someone explains. The statue...

Located on Warren Street in central Roxbury, Unity Bank is an unimpressive grey building with large arched doorways. Inside, the walls are just beginning to crack in some places and the bank seems small. Up the street, a drab, pre-fabricated government housing project stands alone, near completion, in the middle of a large barren lot. And directly across from Unity lies another lot--this one empty and muddy. But Unity's forlorn appearance and surroundings are deceiving...
