Doorstep Murder. While police hustled the kicking, screaming man from the court, Baron von Freudiger brushed tears from his eyes. The interruption was a grim reminder of the bitterness that still ravages the Hungarian Jews who escaped Nazi annihilation. Some survivors insist that rich Jews bought their freedom by shipping poor Jews to the ovens of Auschwitz. One of the baron's colleagues. Dr. Rudolf Kastner, was denounced by an Israeli court in 1955 for his dealings with the Nazis. Later, Kastner was murdered on his doorstep by vengeful Jews...

...which chronicled some savage, real-life skirmishes in New York's teenage gang warfare. The film is at its best when at its ugliest-picturing punks prowling their tenement-glutted, garbage-strewn "turf" (territory), or an Italian gang stabbing a blind Puerto Rican boy to death, or the grim subway beating of Assistant D.A. A sentient lover (Tadeusz Janczar) pretends "we're walking in a dark and fragrant wood," but his blonde, tough-minded mistress (Teresa Izewska) shatters the illusion tersely: "We're walking in [obscenity]." The lovers' goal is to reach the sewer...

...week long the grim recital of Jewry's nightmare under the Nazi regime continued. A father told how he had been forced to throw the bodies of his son and daughter on the crematory fires. An Israeli electrical worker described an SS man courteously asking a mother to hand over her baby, then dashing its head against the pavement. Other witnesses testified that the Nazi soldiers delighted in testing their revolver marksmanship by aiming at the tips of a Jew's fingers and nose, and forced husbands to have sex relations with other men's wives...
