There was little ground fighting in South Viet Nam last week, and bad weather cut down air action over the North. Yet, ironically, what combat there was reflected an escalation of sorts -by the Viet Cong. In one early-morning raid, the Communists sent 14 Russian-made 140-mm. rockets slamming into the U.S. airbase at Danang, damaging two planes and injuring 16 troops. Northwest of Saigon, Viet Cong mortars and recoilless rifles opened up on the 25th Infantry Division base at Cu Chi, wounding another seven Americans. Elsewhere around the country, enemy mortar shells and rockets were whistling through...

...springtime-sunny Sunday in the South, particularly in Georgia, where Sherman's march cut such a vast swath, a widespread (and individually selfish) safari of as many as 500 relic collectors can be found crisscrossing carefully over the once bloodied ground. Yet he was at the Blockade Runners last week to show off his weekend treasures -some shell fragments, a pistol ball and a ramrod...

Demonstrating its versatility in last week's test, the SV-5D fired nitrogen jets in response to commands radioed from the ground, changing its attitude as it soared through space over the Pacific. Then, as it followed its trajectory back into the atmosphere, the craft moved its control flaps, turned, and detoured 500 miles before returning to its original course and splashing down in the ocean near Kwajalein Island. Though the SV-5D sank, and was lost when heavy seas ripped away its flotation gear, its otherwise successful flight brought closer the day when man can first steer...
