Considerably younger than this group of seven is Henry de Leon (b. 1945), who has the only sculpture and photography in the exhibit. There is an untitled limestone piece done when he was a junior at Brandeis, and a recent wood sculpture called "Negrita." Both of these are semi-abstract, and beautifully rhythmed with smooth following curves. His twenty photographs range from middling to excellent. Particularly effective is the juxtaposition of an old Negro woman with moles, ten-thousand wrinkles and white hair, and a laughing young boy in swimming trunks...
Thankfully, fiction is more entertaining than life. The Andromeda Strain tells of how a group of super-scientists (at least one of whom is a toned-down version of J. D. Watson) set to work in a secret, five-story, underground bacterial research center in Nevada--part of "Project Wildfire." State University Investment Analysis Center, estimates that the value of his own stocks has dropped 23% since May-a period during which the Dow-Jones industrial average has gone down 15%. He invests largely in over-the-counter stocks, which rose faster than most listed shares during...
...pacifist, he has crusaded for an immediate end to the war in Viet Nam. As a lecturer and reader, he is in constant demand at progressive campuses across the nation, where he is apt to deliver a formal talk in the university auditorium, then forgather with a more committed group for a symposium where he sets a tone of informality by occasionally taking off all his clothes and encouraging his interlocutors to do likewise. This may or may not be accompanied by the chanting of a mantra or two. His earnings from such activities currently run to a minimum...
