...Spark's spoof of Watergate, The Abbess of Crewe, the film features Dennis, Melina Mercouri and Geraldine Page as nuns engaging in some unholy intrigue. Says Sandy: "I play a not very bright sister who talks loudly and does what my mother used to call 'all the grunt work' " -including the delivery of hush money to a men's room in Philadelphia. At that point, justice triumphs, and Sandy is nabbed as a gay on the prowl...
This is not Brayton's style. He's more or less a wily pitcher--he tries to outsmart the batter, throw a wide variety of pitches rather than blaze it by him. Less a grunt thrower like Tom Seaver than, say, a Catfish Hunter. (Whom he admires: "He'll give you one pitch to hit and if you miss it, you're gone.") In the past year the style has worked well enough, even though he's at "the bottom of the totem pole" on the best pitching staff on the league. He led the team in ERA last year...

He finished the challenger with a volley of uppercuts and right-left combinations to the head. As Norton collapsed onto the ropes for the third time, Rondeau ended the fight...
...ideological war! And mainly for a dead ideology! This must not happen, ever! ... So give them their ideology! Let the Chinese leaders glory in it for a while. And for that matter, let them shoulder the whole sackful of unfulfillable international obligations, let them grunt and heave and instruct humanity and foot all the bills for absurd economies (a million a day just for Cuba) and let them support all the terrorists and guerrillas in the Southern Hemisphere too, if they like...
