...most important point I'd like to make, however, concerns Grunwald's heroic pursuit to try to get me to contradict myself. Grunwald misconstrued my remark to him that I didn't know any gays at Harvard "personally" for meaning that I didn't know any gays at Harvard. He then proceeded to construct the rather lengthy argument that any and all claims that I have made that homosexuals appear unhappy to me must be entirely without foundation. After all, how could I make such statements without knowing any gays here...
...more specific (Grunwald should like my indulging in substantiation). The Barnum and Bailey's inspired anti-Peninsula rally, the BGLSA's letters to The Crimson and Independent and common dining room talk (especially including the eat-ins) have featured gays and lesbians speaking about how happy they really are. In fact, the gay community here and elsewhere always makes such an effort to publicize that they really, really, are happy, despite what "homophobes" like me may contend...
...should generalize just based on the actions of the BGLSA and the group of radicals promoting the pro-homosexuality ideology. There are probably several people at Harvard with same-sex sexual attractions who don't feel a compelling need to convince others that they feel good about themselves. Grunwald writes that his roommate is one such person. Grunwald expresses surprise that I said I'm happy for people who believe like his roommate apparently does, as if I would on the contrary be happy for their misery...
...point that "homosexuals are not truly happy despite whatever facade they display," however, is still valid no matter what Grunwald's roommate says, because my definition of happiness rests neither on appearances nor self-testimony but what to me and many others is metaphysical reality...
...pretty certain that Grunwald doesn't ground his definition of happiness in the same realm as I do, and this letter to the editor is not the place to explain mine. But before Grunwald tries to show that I don't know what I'm talking about in making a statement like I did, he must either disprove my statement in the metaphysical realm or disprove the existence of a metaphysical realm. Good luck...
