...advertisement in the New York Times last week from a clothing store, De Pinna's? De Pinna's published a big advertisement calling themselves "Outfitters to 'Prep' School Students. . . ." Then they say "The leading 'prep' schools of the East have established standards of dress," and a lot more guff. Around the advertisement they put the school seals of Andover, Mercersburg, Pomfret, Choate, Groton, Lawrenceville, Exeter, Hill, St. Paul's, Taft and Hotchkiss. Where does De Pinna's get that stuff, calling these schools the leading "prep" schools of the East? Most of them are pretty good schools; I know fellows...

...believe that what works best is best. And, since bunkum is effective, bunkum is best. To fool most of the people most of the time is all that Mr. Mencken can desire. Of course, that is rather simple with the people so guileless, so ready to accept the guff of the grandiloquent...

...Spring, the Junior dinner and the vacation are treated in a rather happy vein editorially. The centre picture, "Harvard after dark," by A. K. Moe '97, is a very creditable bit of work in a somewhat different vein from the general run of Lampoon illustrations. We get a "whooper" or "plucked" in consequence. We "grind up for the semis" and by means of "guff" and "gall" we "skin through." This really is entertaining but hardly elevating. But where shall we stop? Shall it be when the instructor says "Doncherknow?" or when we meet a friend who declares that "this...

...cents, which is most comforting. In the half-past twelve car you will find all the seats occupied by private tutors and now and then an unfortunate waitress sandwiched in between them. The car for real enjoyment, though, is the half-past one car. This is known as the "guff-car;" it is often chartered by private parties, who proceed at once to clear out those who have dared to take a seat before them. No reserved seats, but in order to get one you must roll down Cambridge street as far as Charles. This car is a great favorite...
