Early notification was made possible this year because the College Board exams were taken on March 11, Richard M. Gummere, Chairman of the Admissions Committee, explained. Last year the test was held on April 9.
Because it wants a "clear cut statement of policy on Negroes at Harvard," the John Reed Club yesterday presented Admissions Chairman Richard M. Gummere '07, with a six-point questionnaire on College admission policy.
Gummere said that the College would not remove pictures from the application blanks since they were needed for identification. One or two Negro schools are on the College's list for publicity information, the Director of Admissions added.
"There are four satisfactory candidates for each place in Harvard," Gummere declared.
Only in 1943 when Richard M. Gummere, chairman of the Committee on Admissions, ran successfully for a post on the Cambridge School Council, was there a substantial vote from the Harvard community.
