...follow-up by the makers of last year's brilliant Trainspotting. The illpaced narrative tells the story of Robert (Ewan McGregor), a recently-fired janitor who unwittingly kidnaps the beautiful daughter (Cameron Diaz) of his rich ex-boss. Screenwriter John Hodge attempts to freshen things up by tossing in gun-toting angels, a psychotic dentist and some forced romantic comedy, but only manages to further muddle the plot. A messy film that looks like a work-in-progress. --Jordan...
...read with concern that Chinese President Jiang Zemin is to make a state visit to the United States embellished by no less than a 21-gun salute and welcoming ceremonies with President Clinton on the South Lawn of the White House. I implore Harvard, scheduled as a stop on Jiang's itinerary, not to forget that Jiang is the official head of the thug government which killed and imprisoned thousands of peaceful demonstrators, many of them students, in and around Tiananmen Square on June 5, 1989, a day that will live in infamy...
...after grabbing Scher's 16-gauge Winchester pump-action shotgun, ran off after it. Scher told police that he heard a shot, ran toward it and found Dillon 250 ft. away with a fatal wound to his chest. He had apparently tripped over a shoelace and fell on the gun. Splattered with blood from trying to revive his friend, Scher said he was so overcome with emotion that he smashed the gun against a tree, destroying it. The coroner declared the death an accident...

The two men proceeded to argue and, Scher said, Dillon grabbed a gun. "I heard a scream or a yell, and I saw he had the 16-gauge in his hand. I knew I had to get that gun away from him. There was a struggle, and the gun went off." Why did he lie throughout the past two decades? "Because...
...trouble with making an extraordinary film is the follow-up--hence the bombastic promotion of A Life Less Ordinary. Set in America this time around, it tells the story of a match made in heaven. Literally. Replete with gun-toting angels, phone conversations with God (a charming uncredited cameo by Sean Connery), botched bank robberies, psychotic dentists, Cameron Diaz, and a lot of guns, the film looks to be a fresh, funny romp around some of the weirder extremities of multi-genre filmmaking...
