In "Morgenstimmung," where Grieg gives the scene of Peer's death, the joyousness of the daybreak is strangely contrasted with the sad minor strains of which death is the theme. In "Aase's Tod" is expressed the sinking to rest of a soul wearied with the sorrows of life. "Anitras Tanz" is an infectious little dance into which Grieg has introduced an Oriental element.
