...story concerns an actress attempting a double comeback from alcoholism-professionally and as the mother of a teen-age child she had virtually abandoned. She has two friends, a ne'er-do-well actor and homosexual (James Coco) and a wealthy woman desperately afraid of aging (Joan Hackett). They are all self-pitiers and nonstop talkers, mostly in a manner that might be called show-biz fizz, a stylization that works all right for Simon onstage, but seems on the naturalistic screen an inhuman strain. Coach Joe Bernal's aquamen conducted business as usual down at Blodgett pool. Led by former Olympic silver medalist Bobby Hackett, the Crimson racked up an undefeated dual-meet record and then rolled over all comers by scoring a record number of points at the Eastern Seaboard Championships at Dartmouth. A strong crop of freshmen--including Mike Miao and Tony Meier--helped the Crimson maintain its preeminence over all Eastern competition. Since the arrival of Hackett and Bernal in 1977, the Crimson has lost just one dual meet, easily making it the most successful squad in recent Harvard sports history...
