...Creative Management Associates, Sue Mengers is, in the rueful words of one of her ex-clients, "more powerful than the stars she handles." An overestimation, perhaps, but Mengers' list of personal clients is largely above-the-title: Barbra Streisand, Ryan O'Neal, Ali McGraw, Candice Bergen, Gene Hackman, Tony Perkins, Tuesday Weld, Directors Herb Ross, Peter Bogdanovich, Bob Fosse and Writer Gore Vidal, to name...

...Poseidon's passenger list is a manifest of stereotypes, her cargo clichés. The hero is Reverend Frank Scott (Gene Hackman), a sort of seagoing Malcolm Boyd who exhorts his shipboard congregation to "have the guts to fight for yourself-God loves brave souls." Also among the survivors are a beefy cop (Ernest Borgnine) and his new wife, a reformed whore (Stella Stevens); a teen-age girl (Pamela Sue Martin) and her obnoxious little brother (Eric Shea); an aging Jewish couple (Shelley Winters and Jack Albertson) en route to the holy land; a timid haberdasher (Red Buttons...

...people to see in Kansas City are Mary Ann (Gene Hackman) and his sultry wife Clarabelle (Angel Tompkins), a former Chicago model. Mary Ann auctions cattle and keeps the buyers happy by filling cowpens with stoned-out, naked teen-age girls, who are also up for sale. "I give this country what it wants," Mary Ann gloats. "Dope and flesh." Devlin stalks past the beef and the broads without batting an eye and confronts Mary...

...Point Blank mold, a kind of jazzy allegory about brutality and dehumanization. Point Blank, however, had John Boorman directing Lee Marvin. Prime Cut has only Lee Marvin and a director who must have taken a very long lunch hour. Against all odds, Marvin summons up a measure of dignity. Hackman looks abashed...
