Yesterday afternoon, at the first practice since the vacation, several new men came out, increasing the total number of candidates to over twenty. The work, which lasted about an hour and a half, was full of life and as good as could be expected so early in the year. The men were divided into two teams and a scrub game was played, every candidate being given a chance to play at some time during the practice. The squad will not be reduced for several days...
...Freshman crew went through their regular practice yesterday afternoon. It consisted of fifteen minutes' work on the machines, followed by light exercises in the Gymnasium and a half mile run on the board track. On the machines the men simply practiced the body reach; neither the oars nor the slides being used. The coaching was done by Mr. Lehmann, Mr. Willis, Captain Goodrich and members of the 'Varsity squad. Mr. Fernie and Mr. Howell, of last year's Cambridge eight, and Mr. Goldie of the Cambridge trial eights, who are on a short visit to this country, watched the practice...
...plans of the team. The club probably will adopt the rules now used by the Boston Athletic Association, and not the National rules, as it has been informally suggested that the B. A. A. team will hold practice games with the Harvard team in the B. A. A. tank. Half-hour practice will be held three or four times a week. Several games can be arranged with water polo teams, although no negotiations have yet taken place. The game does not demand very strong swimmers, and Dr. Sargent considers it an exceedingly good form of exercise. There will be another...
...Burke won the quarter and half mile easily, but as he ran for Boston University last year he can not compete for Harvard this spring. Applegate and Clark, who won second places in these events, ran very well and will probably develop into point winners. A. W. Robinson, the interscholastic champion, was not hard pushed in the 100 yards dash. If he can swing into the stride quicker after the start he will be a hard man to beat. C. M. Rotch did good work in the high jump, considering that he had just recovered from illness. E. N. Mills...
...Freshman crew began regular training yesterday afternoon. The men were divided into squads of ten to twelve men each and temporary squad leaders were appointed. The work yesterday consisted of fifteen minutes light exercise in the Gymnasium, followed by a slow run of half a mile. Rowing will begin as soon as the machines in the rowing room can be put in order, which will probably be in a day or two. Twelve more men joined the squad in addition to those whose names have already been published, making 165 in all. They were...
