...select. The five men who have played in their positions with considerable regularity and who, if they continue to improve as expected, seem reasonably sure to have the preference for the championship games are: Holt, centre; Glass, left guard; Goss, right guard; Hogan, right tackle; and Captain Chadwick, left halfback. All five were members of the 1901 eleven, although Glass did not play the latter part of the season. The greatest difficulty for the coaches lies in the choice of the ends and backs. From tackle to tackle the team has been playing up to the usual Yale standard...

Foster, as right halfback, played a creditable game, but frequently showed his comparative inexperience. Several times when the opposing end was boxed, he had exceptional chances for long runs, but instead of taking advantage of them, he turned in toward the scrimmage and was promptly tackled. Whitwell was entirely ineffective at left tackle and had he been removed sooner, the gains of the Maine backs through that side of the Harvard line would have been less frequent. Marshall was still slow in giving signals, but atoned for this fault somewhat by his skillful handling of punts in the backfield. Jones...

...most consistent ground-gaining of the afternoon was then shown by Harvard's team of substitutes during the last few minutes of play. Knowles, who had gone in at left halfback for Harvard, caught a punt on Harvard's thirty-three yard line and ran it in twenty yards. Three gains by Knowles of fifteen, eleven and six yards, together with several shorter advances by the other backs, took the ball to the seven yard line, whence Knowles went around right tackle for the last touchdown. Barnard kicked the goal. On the next kick-off, Ives made a long...

...regular men will not be in the line-up. Hovey will play left guard in place of A. Marshall, Mills will take Wright's place at tackle, Stillman will be tried at fullback and Foster will be used for the first time in a regular game at right halfback.--The University of Maine team, with the exception of two men, is the same as it was when coached by Farley last year. It has played and won four games and has shown ability to run up large scores. Harvard will have an advantage, however, in knowing their opponents style...

...exception of Wright, who was hurt on the head in Wednesday's game, nearly all of the first team men were out for the University football practice yesterday and went through some form of exercise. In the signal practice, A. Marshall occupied left guard, Kernan went in at left halfback and Graydon at fullback. None of these men, however, played in the line-up against the second team. Tenney and Meier were the only other backs who were not allowed to play. Both are a trifle lame and will be given a chance to rest. Burgess is recovering from tonsillitis...
