On the second lap Howe passed Bates and made the first half mile in 3 minutes 21 seconds, with Bates twenty feet behind him. Howe kept slowly increasing his lead and in spite of a determined spurt by Bates, Howe won by about fifty feet in 7 minutes 14 1-5 seconds...
...Wells, the winner of the college quarter for the past three years, is expected back to win the event again this year. Other promising candidates for the quarter are Bachelder, '91, Wright, '91, and Rhoades, '92. Stead, '91, and Davenport, '90, are looked upon as sure winners for the half-mile and the mile run respectively. Mandel, '89, and Bell, '90 are very good men for the hurdles, the former having won one of these events last year. Third inning: Dean and Downer struck out, Linn made a base hit but was out to steal second. Princeton made four runs in her half of the inning. Dana and Knickerbocker got their base on balls, were advanced on King's base hit and came home on Mumford's excusable fumble of Ames sharp grounder. Ames and King also scored on a couple of steals, and Henshaw's muff at the plate of Linn's throw...
