They are not a few people around here who are very upset about students "stealing files from university Hall." which actually means looking at files in University Hall, taking some documents out and copying them, and returning the whole lot. "Stealing files" also involves circulating them for public consumption, which is really the main crime, since the files are supposed to be private files, which only deans and assistant deans and faculty members and secretaries, etc. can look at. From Ford and Pusey's statements, it appears that the file stealing business was among the main reasons that the police...

...believe, however, that the recent action of the students in University Hall goes far beyond democratic processes into the realm of dictatorship or anarchism. I believe that this sort of action should be dealt with in the sternest possible fashion. The idea that students who have a four-year residence at the University should insist by force that their idea of how this 333 year-old University should be run, how far into Cambridge it should expand, and some of their other outre plans is patently ridiculous. It's amazing that they have not yet told the University officials...
Like most Harvard alumni and undoubtedly the vast majority of people I was disturbed and annoyed by the SDS's takeover of University Hall rather as one is annoyed by an incessant insect.
