Fashion designers sensed the approaching boom, and got a head start. By the end of 1968, ready-to-wear stretch wigs by Adolfo and Halston were available for $30, and just this month Vidal Sassoon put his own brand on the counters. In only a year, the leading firm in the field, Abbott Tresses, increased its stretch-wig sales from $200,000 to $10 million and stands every chance of more than doubling the amount by the end of 1970. Says Max Moskowitz, head of sales, "It's like a fairy tale." To assure a happy ending, Mr. Moskowitz...
Limp and Sensuous. When the Richardsons saw how delighted the Rit people were with their four-day efforts, they decided to peddle their designs on their own. One interior decorator who saw the contents of Will Richardson's sample case suggested that Will drop downstairs and see Halston, the brilliant young milliner and fashion designer. Two hours later, Richardson walked out with a $5,000 order. Halston has designed much of his new collection in Up Tied tie-dyes-even including a group of tie-dyed slouch hats. He loves the medium's "limp, sensuous quality," he says...

"The new styles are great," says Best-Dressed Betsy Theodoracopulos, "and wearing them cuts down on visits to the hairdresser." Since the furs begin at $175 and go all the way up to $900, every little economy helps...
Even newer are the shades that really shade: face-size visors reminiscent of the welder's mask or bookkeeper's eye-shield. They were launched 18 months ago by Coty Award-winning Milliner Halston, who was inspired by the green eyeshield worn by his elderly seamstress. Soon they were shown by other designers (Rudi Gernreich, André Courréges, Paco Rabanne), but they did not catch on until this year. Suddenly they are everywhere: at the five and ten for $1, at Manhattan's Bergdorf Goodman (home of Halston...
