...fourth movements of his "Symphonie Orientale," a symphony descriptive of poems by De Lisle, Hugo and Godard. The first. Nikia's Dream, has a beautiful melody for the oboe, taken up by the violins, and then changing to a subject employing the whole orchestra. In the second, In the Hammock, the pricipal theme is introduced by the clarionet and worked out by the strings. The two pieces are excellent examples of the modern French school, unpretentious and not deep, but pleasing and melidious with rich instrumentation...

...this talk was the death of Cadet Strang. Young Strang went to the academy from Oregon. He was duly initiated by the boys, and was within 12 hours laid up in the hospital. Shortly afterwards he died. The cadets said he hurt himself by falling out of a hammock. To the contrary there is evidence that he was fatally injured by hazing.
