...some polls. A Gallup/CNN/USA Today poll that has tracked the issue since 1990 found that in June 1999, only 62% of Americans favored stricter gun laws, compared with 78% in 1990. And a Gallup poll found that the percentage of people who believe the government should ban civilian handgun possession has fallen from 41% in 1981 to 38% in 1999.
