Most of us gravitated to the challening courses and majors. We were part of a fabulous era of lecturers (I treasure my memories of lectures by Bate, Demos, Handlin, Hugo, Lynn, Perry Miller, Mark deWolfe Howe and Kenneth Murdock) but mostly of weary section men.
