...life among the Tolstoyans plays out as a parallel to Leo's. Arriving at their woodsy compound, Valentin cheerfully observes that it's a beautiful day. "Yes, but we'll pay for it," says the grumpy Sergeyenko (Patrick Kennedy). Except for a carnal handywoman named Masha (Kerry Condon), who serves as a mini-Sofya to Valentin's mini-Leo, the Tolstoyans are too busy trying to adhere to their standards - vegetarianism, living off the land, practicing celibacy - to appreciate either a beautiful day or the fact that Tolstoy himself doesn't live up to them...
That the latter, in the case of Bound, is between lesbians--a gangster's moll named Violet (Jennifer Tilly) and Corky the handywoman fixing up the apartment next door (Gina Gershon)--has caused a certain amount of prerelease stir. But their relationship is more verbal than physical (with their sexual encounters very discreetly managed), and the fun of this movie--written and directed by the brothers Wachowski, Larry and Andy--lies elsewhere...
...that it is utterly impossible and unbelievable for one woman to perform the exhausting schedule you have reported: Mrs. Nixon does most of the housework and laundry in her $41,000 home, she does half the cooking and all the marketing for a family of four, she plays handywoman, she answers on the average 200 letters a week, she attends luncheons and bazaars, and to top it all off, she goes to formal dinner parties most evenings ... Oh! She travels...
