Somewhere between these two poles is Francis O'Hara's "The Unquiet Grave," which the Advocate's editors have placed in the unsavory category of "controversial" literature. It is good, but not especially so, and certainly not controversial. The idea of the story, which seems to me exaggeratedly picturesque, is generally hidden behind a style which is floridly poetic. Perhaps this concealment is a good thing, for the style is definitely the strong point of the piece...
Sitting Pretty (20th Century-Fox). A suburban Mr. & Mrs. (Robert Young, Maureen O'Hara), harassed by their three small boys, an outsized dog and a dearth of baby sitters, run a Help Wanted ad. Result: one Lynn Belvedere is hired sight unseen. To their dismay, Lynn turns out to be a middle-aged male (Clifton Webb), who coolly describes himself as a genius. He is also a polysyllabic practitioner of yoga, and easily the most versatile handyman since Leonardo da Vinci. Before he is done with solving problems and subjugating parents, he fries the whole community...
...strawberries and sour cream with Mr. Belvedere (Webb). For a while a lot of people think that he is being bad with Maureen O'Hara, and when her husband, Robert Young, objects with some' emphasis, Webb keeps on shredding the lettuce that he has been shredding. "Life must go on," he explains. Finally he writes a book that exposes the little doings of everyone in the suburb, O'Hara and Young make up like sensible folk, and things are generally looking up, with Miss O'Hara expecting a fourth little boy. Three's a plenty, in spite of that...
