Richard Haskins Nichols '17, of Brookline, was found dead of exhaustion and exposure on the marshes in the Barnstable harbor on Tuesday afternoon, December 29. Nichols had gone duck-shooting with two classmates, but left them early Tuesday morning to try for some ducks before luncheon. His continued absence alarmed his companions, who went in search of him about two o'clock, accompanied by an attendant of the hunting shack in which they had been living. The body was found in the bottom of a duck-boat, which was partly filled with water...
...understated and restrained, and still more that the facts be stated and lib- erated. Let those whose privilege it is to be possessed of pertinent facts about the situation express them boldly and publish them abroad for our enlightenment; but let those of us whose misfortune it is to harbor only blind and unreasoned opinions (and vague illusions as to how American sympathies ought to run and why, etc.), assume that humility implied in "understatement and restraint." Now it matters little for the case in hand whether the date of distinction examinations or the date of the Senior Picnic be changed. As death, taxes, and the rules of the College Office are equally inflexible, we should hazard the guess...
...good swing and vigorous lines. Mr. Sanger's "The Vision of His Work" is an interesting example of the tendency to seek poetic subjects in the sights and sounds of a great city. Occasionally the choice of words might be happier, as in the line "The whistles of the harbor craft ring out." Infelicities are rare, however, and there are often very good lines, such...
