There was no hard practice yesterday afternoon, owing to the Brown game today. The backs practiced kicking against the wind for some time, and then the first and second elevens lined up for a few minutes, practicing breaking through on kicks and getting down on the ball. Brown kicked well for the first eleven, and for the second Cozzens did some quick dodging, getting by the first eleven ends several times. After this the first eleven practiced signals...

...offered by the English Department, commences. Every meeting of the societies from now on will be a small but important part in the preparation for the intercollegiate contests with Yale and Princeton, in which success means so much to Harvard. Harvard must win; but to win Harvard must work, hard and steadily. That a great many men will work hard we have no doubt, for there is a great deal of earnest and well directed, though undemonstrative, enthusiasm in debating throughout the University. Fairbanks, centre on last year's Freshman team, has been out a day or two but has done only light work in order to get into...

This was marked chiefly by a great deal of fumbling and also by some sharp playing. The backs ran well together and ran hard. Cozzens showed up especially well, making one long run on a caught ball. Seaver at end played a strong game, breaking up the interference in fine style, although sometimes missing his man. Scott '98 played quarterback for a while on the second eleven, as Cochrane is now on crutches...

...fine condition, although there is considerable trouble being had with about fifty feet of it near the last turn. The track there was so high that not enough of the new dressing could be put on to make a new surface, and as the old surface was almost as hard as stone, the added material merely lies loosely on the top instead of packing down firmly...
