...Intercollegiate Golf Association tournament held at the Apawamis Club of Rye, N. Y., September 13 to 15, the University golf team was runner-up, being defeated by Yale only after a hard struggle. In the preliminary matches Harvard won decisive victories over Pennsylvania and Williams by defeating the former 8 to 1 and the latter 7 to 2. Yale in the meantime defeated Princeton, who had in turn won from Dartmouth. The final match resulted in a victory for Yale, 6 to 3. Harvard Training Quarters, Red Top, Conn., June 24, 1909.--Today's work for all crews was exceptionally light on account of the continued hot weather. In the morning the University eight paddled down-stream to the mile mark and back in easy stretches. There was no hard work of any kind and no racing starts were tried. The Freshman eight covered about a mile and one-half, while all the fours had slightly harder practice. The University and Freshman fours rowed down to the Navy Yard and back, trying a few racing starts which were won by the University boat...

...baseball team gave proof yesterday of the quality which has been characteristic of it throughout the season--hard fighting. With the score 2 to 0 against them, and with one bad inning behind them, the men were never unsettled; they played hard and fast, and they played to win. Harvard's pitchers were the better and the Harvard team the steadier. In the words of one of the Yale players, "Harvard had the better team, but Yale had the luck to start with"; the element of luck which favored Yale at the outset was counterbalanced by Harvard's luck later...
